Elke Sommer probably had the most unique career start in acting history. During a holiday in Italy in 1958, the residents of the village of Viareggio were so enchanted by Elke’s beauty that she was spontaneously voted “Miss” of the town. An Italian film producer became aware of the Berliner, and after she had acted in a few Italian films, she was able to get her first roles in Germany. With “The Girl and the Prosecutor” she gained international recognition in the early 1960s and began acting in several Hollywood films. Although she is no longer an actress at the age of 80, she has been a successful painter for over fifty years.
