Dr. Sunbury knew he had to do something unusual to Jackson to find out what was really going, he just wasn’t sure if Howard would agree. To discover what was really in those holes, he had to shave some of the dog’s fur. Of course, no pet owner would react kindly to that happening to their dog unless it was absolutely necessary.
In this case, it was more than necessary, and thankfully, Howard recognized that. It would make Jackson look funny and probably scare her son at first, but it needed to be done. She gave her consent. Sunbury reassured her that shaving would only occur around the hole areas.
