Even as he worked on the dog, Dr. Sunbury couldn’t help feeling the anger and disbelief. The 20 BBs he removed were not all, he still had to pick out seven additional pellets. It was a miracle the dog had survived. Had he not been put on antibiotics and pain medication the moment he arrived, the situation could have been much worse.
In all his years of being a vet, he had never seen an animal injured this badly. Occasionally, he would treat a hunting animal that had gunshot wounds, but none of those cases were this terrifying.
